8.5.18 |
- Preview window is not updated when Studio 8 is brought to
the front. Instead it contains a copy of previous contents of
the screen area it occupies, while it should have displayed the
Pinnacle test screen. This happens when Studio starts with no
video file open.
Example
|
8.5.8 |
8.7.23
5/30/03 |
- Selected text is ignored when editing a title. The Delete
key will delete one character left of the cursor. Text will be
inserted at the cursor, but selected text is not deleted.
Example
|
8.5.8 |
O 8.8.4 |
- Text in Text view mode is cut off at the bottom of each line.
Start and length in Text view mode shows 0:00:0 only. Fonts
size is too large and should be the same as the font size used
in the header. This occurs when the Display Font Size is set to Large Fonts (125%
normal size, 120dpi).
Example

4/3/03 |
- Press Create Title Overlay in the Title Toolbox,
add some text in the title and press cancel to leave the title
editor. Press Create Title Overlay in the Title Toolbox
again and
a dialog box is displayed "Save changes to Untitled". This
dialog box is unexpected and its function is unclear. Also,
the dialog box is displaying a Japanese message. The dialog is not
properly coded and as a result junk is displayed.

- 8-bit, 256 color palette image is shows as
a black picon in the photo album. Moved to the storyboard or
timeline, they show up as black images too. After opening the
image in the title editor by clicking on the image and closing
the title editor, the image is shown on storyboard or
timeline. 8.7.1 Image is not shown properly in Album or
timeline, but is shown correctly in the Title Editor.

8.5.8 |
O 8.8.4 |
- The 'TV Standard' option in Setup>Capture
Source... selects between NTSC and PAL (non US version). It
determines the resolution and frame rate parameters in
Setup>Make movie options. Placing a clip on the
storyboard/timeline will fix the video standard, aka it can not
be changed in the Setup>Capture Source... dialog box. However,
the standard shown is not necessarily the standard the project
is using. For example, it might show PAL, but the project is a NTSC project.
Example

8.5.20 |
- This bug is described in detail on the
beta forum. Place two menus followed by two clips on the
story board. Open the properties dialog for the first menu and
link the second menu and first clip to the first menu. Link
the second clip to the second menu. At that time, the first
menu gets corrupted and will show the background of the second
menu. Example.
|
8.5.18 |
O 8.8.4 |
- Chapter links to menus are not shown in
text view; chapter links to clips are.
|
8.5.18 |
O 8.8.4 |
- Select all and copy in text view, will copy the clip
information, but not the chapter link information.
|
8.5.18 |
8.8.4
7/2/03 |
- Captions can be edited in the Title
Editor, but they revert back to the original caption after
closing the title editor; they can be edited in the Menu properties screen.
|
8.5.18 |
O 8.8.4 |
- "Open the Video Toolbox", "Open the Audio
Toolbox" tooltips are not shown in the Title Editor
(consistency).
Example
|
8.5.18 |
8.7.1
4/3/03 |
- Studio only recognizes the first five
seconds of a MPEG-1 file as discussed
here. It seems to be an issue with the scene detection.
After trimming the mpeg file to the first scene (8 seconds)
using another application, Studio 8 shows the full 8 seconds.
|
8.5.18 |
|
- The scene detection setting in the Capture
Source dialog box also affects the scene detection used when
opening a video file in the Album. This not clear from the GUI
and is not documented in the manual.
Example
|
8.5.18 |
8.8.4
7/2/03 |
- This
project file contains a full screen menu with two text
fields 'A' and 'B' which were made normal buttons. Edit the
menu and in the title editor change the first text field 'A'
into 'Not a button' and press Ok to exit the title editor.
Returning to Studio, the remaining button 'B' now has the
label 'A' and the menu shows two 'A's.
|
8.5.20
2/23/03 |
|
- Studio 8 occasionally freezes when clicking
the Video Toolbox icon while in the video editor.
|
8.5.20
2/23/03 |
O 8.8.4 |
- The last two frames of any HFX effect which
does not end with the second clip as a full screen (for
example, multi window and speciality effects) will show the
last two frames of the second clip instead of the last two
frames of the effect. Note that I am not talking about the
requirement that the duration of an effect is one frame less
than the length of the clip. Here is how to reproduce: place
two clips on the storyboard (I assume both are five seconds).
Place the Speciality Effects - Spin 2 A effect between the two
clips. The maximum length of the effect will be 4.29 seconds.
The total duration will be 5.01 seconds (one frame of the
first clip, a transition of 4.29 seconds, one frame of the
second clip). Frame 4.28 and 4.29 should show the last two
frames of the transition; instead, they show full screen
frames from the second clip.

3/3/03 |
8.7.1
4/3/03 |
- (1) Studio shows the properties of sound
effect instead of the properties of the video clip. Place two
clips on the storyboard and drag a sound effect on the first
clip. Double click on the second clip to open the video
toolbox video properties. Click on the first clip and the
properties of the sound effect are shown instead of the
properties of the video clip. (2) Trim the sound effect from
left beyond the length of the first clip and the first clip
will be deleted. Details are discussed on the Beta
forum.

O 8.8.4 |
- Volume properties screen shows corruption.
Put a clip on the storyboard. Double click on the clip to open
the clip properties and open the Audio Toolbox.
Example.
|
8.5.21
3/19/03 |
O 8.8.4 |
- Start a new project and add two clips to
the timeline (the second clip is selected). Open the Audio
Toolbox and select the first clip (the second clip is
deselected). Changing the volume of the original audio track
will change the volume of both clips; not the volume of the
selected clip (e.g. it behaves like changing the master volume
for the entire original audio track).

6/2/03 |
- "Note: you are deleting the last button

with no links". Create a menu with a single button. Create
new project; do not save the current project. Create a full
screen title and the error message will occur.

- A DVD with a single menu at the start plays
perfectly on WinDVD. However a DVD with the menu at the end
does not work. (1) The 42 second movie starts playing with an
indicated start time of 08m:45s. (2) The movie stops when the
indicated time jumps from 09m:12s to 00m:02s. (3) The sound is
stuttering terribly. Again, the same four scenes, but
now the menu is placed in the middle. Let WinDVD 4 play the DVD
directory in Auxiliary Files folder. DVD does not play. Press
the Menu button and WinDVD brings up the menu which plays
correctly. Buttons to the first two scenes in front of the
menu do not work. Buttons to the last two scenes after the
menu do work. Only linking the last two scenes coming after
the menu produces a DVD which plays as expected. Obviously,
linking to scenes located before the menu, produces an unusable
DVD, even though it seems to work perfectly in preview mode.

- First menu takes background of second menu. Add two different menus to the
storyboard/timeline followed by two clips. Link the first clip
to the first menu. Link the second menu to the first menu.
Link the second clip to the second menu. Make a DVD and
observe that the background of the second menu is also used as
the background for the first menu.
Example

8.5.18 |
|
- Studio creates a VCD which cannot be played
on PowerDVD 4 and hangs WinDVD 3 when using this
mpeg file.
Ulead VideoStudio 6 has no problem creating a working VCD
using this mpeg file.
|
8.5.18 |
8.8.4
7/2/03 |
- Studio crashes when trying starting to
compile a VCD with this mpeg file.
|
8.5.18 |
|
- VCD playback control is not functioning
correctly. The accompanying project file consist of one menu
and three chapters. During play back of the clips, 'Next' does
not respond, while 'Previous' always returns to the menu.
Again during play back of the clips, '1' and '3' do not
respond, while '2' always returns to the beginning of the
first clip. While the menu is displayed, '1', '2', and '3'
function as expected. This behavior was observed on a JVC DVD
player.
Project file. See also this
thread on the beta forum.
|
8.5.18 |
|
- A VCD with a two page menu and four
chapters exhibits the following behavior. PowerDVD XP: Menu
behaves as expected. While playing the clip, 'Previous' goes
to the previous chapter, but 'Next' always returns to the
menu. The JVC DVD player does not respond the 'Next' and
always returns to the menu when 'Previous' is pressed while
playing the chapters.
Project file. A
dump of the
PSD structure (one menu, three chapters) shows that 'Next'
always points to the menu
(next: LID[1] @0x0000).
|
8.5.18
2/23/03 |
|
- Studio copies a single scene MPEG-1 file to
a VCD verbatim. This file (chapter if the VCD has a menu)
cannot be played back.
This file
contains the first four scenes of the Photoshoot movie and is
opened in the Album with automatic scene detection
turned off (turn off scene detection, before opening the file.
You can always delete the .scn file if needed). The Album
should show a single scene. Copy this scene to the storyboard
and burn a VCD. The VCD will not play.

8.5.21
3/1/03 |
- A DVD with the following structure causes
PowerDVD XP and WinDVD 3 to hang: Menu1, Menu2, Scene1,
Scene2; Button1 on Menu1 points to Menu2, Button2 on Menu1
points to Scene1; Button1 on Menu2 points to Scene2.
Project file.
Reverse Button1 and Button2 on Menu1, e.g. Button1 points to
Scene1, and the DVD plays fine.

3/3/03 |
|
- Changing disc writer device in the Make
Disc Setup Options does not chance the write speeds associated
with the device. A work around is to select the device and
close the dialog box. Opening the Make Disc Setup Options
dialog box again, shows the correct write speeds.
Example.
|
8.5.21
3/3/03 |
|
- If the writer contains a RW disc, Studio
will ask whether it is ok to erase the disc, even if there is
no project to render. Answer 'No' and the disc will be
ejected.

- The size of the maximized window is wrong 1036x742 instead
of the expected 1024x768. The bottom is partially hidden. This
occurs when the Display Font Size is set to Large Fonts (125%
normal size, 120dpi). Example.
When using Normal Fonts, the window size is still 1036x742, but
at least the bottom part is properly displayed. Update: the
window size is now 1036x776 and the story board and time line
are displayed correctly.

|
- The Ok, Cancel, Help buttons are not
displayed correctly in Setup Options. The rounded buttons are
displayed with a black background. Test data rate, Same as

displays correctly, the Cancel and Help buttons are still
wrong. This becomes clear when setting the Display font size
to 200%.
