ダービー 壺の3点セット (1774年頃)

　チェルシー・ダービー期の壺三点セット。いずれもトルコ色と金彩で装飾されている。

　中央の壺は、丸い胴体に垂れ幕がかかり、左右にライオン頭部の取っ手が付けられ、長く伸びた首にはひねり縞が施されている。

　両脇の壺には、カップ型の胴体に花綱装飾、山羊頭部の取っ手、縦長の穴がくり抜かれた首などの特徴がある。蓋は逸失しているものと思われる。全体的な形状はダービー（D2-19）と類似しているが、花綱装飾及び首部のくり抜きの有無が異なる。


　1774年のダービーのロンドン店舗カタログ（「原典を読む８」を参照）には、以下のように本品類似の作品が掲載されている。

【中央の壺に類似した作品】
　67 A pair of sky blue two-handled vases, with golden lions heads supporting a gold striped and white festoon drapery ; a long neck with twisted white gold edged ribs, and a white and blue divided foot on a white gold edged slab 10 3/4 inches high.

　67 ペアのスカイブルーの両取っ手の壺。金のライオン頭部が金の縞模様と白のひだのよった垂れ幕を支えている。長い首部、ひねった白地に金縁の胸部及び白と青で分かれた足。白地に金縁の板状の台。高さ10 3/4インチ(27.3cm)。

【両脇の壺に類似した作品】（以下2点のうち、77番の方がより本品の形状に近いように思われる。）
　64 A pair of sky-blue vases with rams heads in gold, on the horns of which hangs a white and gold festoon ; neck and top perforated, white and gold pediment and base 7 inches high.
　77 A pair of cup-formed, agate coloured vases with two gilt goats head handles, from the horns of which hangs a white and gold festoon ; the white gold edged neck and cover pierced with long apertures, topped with an agate button ; the bottom and pediment white and gold fixed to a square gilt slab 7 inches high.
＜仮訳＞
　64 ペアのスカイブルーの壺。金の羊頭部の角の上に、白と金の花綱がかけられている。首と最上部には穴が開けられている。白と金のペディメントと土台。高さ7インチ(17.8cm)
　77 ペアのカップ型のアゲート色の壺。2つの金の山羊頭部の取っ手があり、その角から白と金の花綱がつり下げられている。白地に金で縁取られた首と蓋には長い開口があり、上端にはアゲートのボタンがある。底部とペディメントは白と金。四角い金の板状の台に固定されている。高さ7インチ(17.8cm)


　マークに関しては、3点ともチェルシー・ダービー期の「金色の錨」マークが記されていることに加え、両脇の壺には、裏面に薄い赤のような色で"No.1"と手書きされている。壺の型番は素地に刻み込まれるのが一般的なので、この1番というのが型番を指すのか否か、断定的なことは言えないが、同様の例がダービー(D2-18)にもある（そこではNo.61と書かれている）。本品に類似し、かつ若干簡素化された形状の作品であるダービー(D2-19)の型番が10番なので、本品にはそれより若い型番が割り振られていた可能性は十分にあると思われる。


高さ：中央の壺 26cm。両脇の壺 15cm and 15.5cm。

マーク：（中央の壺）台座裏面の穴の中に「金色の錨」。台座裏面にパッチマーク。
　　（両脇の壺）台座裏面又は穴の中に「金色の錨」。台座裏面に薄い赤(?)で手書きで"No.1"。台座裏面にパッチマーク。
Marks：(Center Vase) A gold anchor in the hole of the bottom. Patch marks on the bottom.
　　(Side Vases) A gold anchor in the hole of or on the bottom. "No.1" painted in pale red(?) on the bottom. Patch marks on the bottom.
